Last week, I went to New York City (or “the city” as us New Yorkers call it). While there, I experienced the glitz and glamour of the New York City thrift scene. Unlike the small town where I grew up, New York City has so many thrift stores that I can’t even count them all. Can you say endless possibilities? So spent the entire day on Saturday visiting almost every single thrift store in Manhattan. Today, I want to share my favorite thrift spots and finds with you guys!
First, let’s talk about my favorite thrift spots in New York City!
1. Goodwill- 103 W 25th St, New York, NY
Okay, so this Goodwill is jam-packed with goodies. Out of all of the thrift stores that we visited, I spent the most amount of time here. Like most NYC stores, this one was pretty small but the racks were filled with clothes. Surprisingly, the prices of this Goodwill location ranged from $1.99-$30 depending on what it was. While sifting through the numerous racks of clothes, I spotted SO many designer brands. I left the store with a HUGE bag of clothes and shoes for both resale purposes and to add to my wardrobe. Out of all of the stores that I went to that day, the staff here was the more kind and welcoming. I would definitely recommend stopping in here if you are ever in Chelsea, Manhattan as you never know what you will find!
2. Beacon’s Closet– 10 W 13th St, New York, NY
One store to stop into if you are ever in East Village, Manhattan is Beacon’s Closet. This resale store is located near Parsons School of Design and is filled to the brim with Designer goodies. I spent over two hours in this store and still felt like I didn’t see everything in it. As this is a resale store, the prices are typically higher than the surrounding thrift stores. For example, shirts averaged $15-25 a piece, dresses ranged from $20-100 a piece, and shoes were anywhere from $25-200 a pair depending on the designer. One thing that I noticed about Beacon’s Closet is that they don’t really pay too much attention to the condition of the pieces. There were quite a few pieces in there that were in very poor condition and still priced at over $100. Overall, it was a good experience.
3. Buffalo Exchange– 114 W 26th St, New York, NY
The last place that I would like to mention is the Buffalo Exchange in Chelsea, Manhattan. Like Beacon’s Closet, this is a resale store where prices were higher than NYC thrift stores. Pricing was very similar to Beacon’s Closet, however, I felt that the merchandise was not quite as good. In my opinion, this store was larger that Beacon’s Closet and a LOT busier. If you travel in NYC, you know that stores are busy with people but this store was a lot busier than I was comfortable with. People were literally pushing each other to get stuff which I thought was ridiculous. Once you get past the crowdedness of the store and actually start looking through the racks, all is good in the world. I would not recommend shopping here for resale but rather to find designer pieces for yourself.
So I bet you are wondering what I bought on my adventures thrifting in New York City. Well, I actually bought quite a bit of stuff. In the outfit pictured above, I bought that Calvin Klein tee for $7.99 and Black Calf Hair Booties for $12.99. Additionally, when I went home a few days later, I bought the white vintage Gucci bag for $2.99 (which is unreal btw.) As far as my other NYC thrift finds go, check out my Poshmark closet as many of those pieces are available for sale on the app.
