Are you ready for the second installment of my mini Poshmark selling series? I hope so because today we will be talking about my FAVORITE topic of all time, shoes! For those of you that aren’t familiar with my Poshmark journey so far, here is a little bit about me. I am a four-year veteran of the app and gave hundreds of items new homes over the years. To say the least, I know a thing or two about the world of Poshmark.
So for today’s post, I wanted to share with you guys some information about selling shoes dresses on the app! Get comfy, grab some coffee and let’s chat!
Q: Why should I sell shoes on Poshmark?
A: Just like dresses, shoes are another successful category for me to sell on Poshmark. Fortunately for me, my local thrift stores typically price shoes between $5-9 per pair, which is relatively inexpensive. Shoes are quick typically a quick flip allowing for the opportunity yo make a pretty large profit. Depending on the brand and type of shoe, you have the potential to make a killing. (FYI, if you take a peek at my inventory, you will find that 30% of my inventory is made up of shoes. Why? Well, first I am shoe addict and second, they are quick and easy money.
Q: What style shoes should I sell?
A: More than any other category, my shoe inventory fluctuates by season. For example, in anticipation for the upcoming fall and winter seasons, I have stocked up on boots, sneakers, and flats. Out of every category of shoes (boots, sandals, sneakers, etc.), boots allow for the biggest profit margins. So think about it like this, how many times have you went to the store to buy a pair of leather boots and saw a $200-$300 price tag? In resale, it works the exact same way. Boots are typically marked up higher than a pair of sandals simply because they retail for more. As a result, because they retail for more, they resell for more. Catch my drift? I know that we are focusing on fall/winter right now, but during the spring/summer months be sure to stock up on sandals, wedges, and heels.
Q: How much should I invest in a pair of shoes to sell?
A: This answer is going to vary from person to person but typically I don’t spend more than $5-$10 per pair of shoes. However, in the past I have spent more than that on a pair of shoes. Typically, I will only spend more than that on a pair of shoes if there is the potential for very large profit margins (5-10x more than what I paid for them). This is where knowing your shoe brands and knowing what sells best for you comes in handy. To keep this simple, if you aren’t going to make a large profit on it, don’t invest a lot into it.
Q: What is your average cost per item?/ What is your average sale per item?
A: My average cost per pair of shoes is $5.99 and my average sale per pair of shoes is $30. (Note: This does not include high designer shoes only trendy pieces).
Q: What brands should I sell?
A: My favorite brands to sell with high turnover rates are Anthropologie brands, Zara, J Crew, Frye, Vince Camuto, Sam Edelman, Stuart Weitzman, Steve Madden, Louise et Cie, Cole Haan and Pour La Victoire (just to name a few).
Q: Do shoes make up the majority of your Poshmark closet?
A: No, shoes do not make up the majority of my closet. I would approximate that 3o% of my closet contains shoes leaving the other 70% for the other categories combined.
Q: What is your average turnover rate on shoes?
A: This depends on the brand of the shoes but on average, shoes typically take 30 days or less to sell for me.
Q: Where do you go to shop for shoes to sell on Poshmark?
A: I find my inventory at various thrift stores, Plato’s Closet, and Clothes Mentor.
