Last week, I ran a Q&A on Instagram to address any reseller questions that my followers might have. One follower how I source my inventory for Poshmark. So I decided to address that question today on the blog. Like most resellers, I am always looking for the best deal on inventory as I want to pay the lowest price possible. I live in a very rural area so my selection of thrift and resale stores is not very big. However, I do live within driving distance of 3 major central New York cities. And as a result, I am able to take trips to these larger cities pretty regularly which is definitely a plus. Today, I want to talk about not only how I source my inventory for Poshmark but also a few tips to consider when shopping for inventory.
Location 1: Plato’s Closet
One place that I go to for inventory is Plato’s Closet. This is definitely not a store that I frequent regularly for inventory. However, I do stop there a few times during the year. If we are being honest, it is mainly when they are running a clearance sale. I’m not the type of reseller who buys any and everything just because it costs a dollar. I am VERY selective when I shop for inventory and will only purchase items that will appeal to my closet’s customer. My local Plato’s Closet is really good for sales but not so great when it comes to their regular inventory (as they like to hike up prices). However, one of the other Plato’s Closet locations that I frequent in another city, has awesome prices on their inventory. As a result, I will buy their regular inventory to list on Poshmark.
Location 2: Thrifty Shopper
Thrifty Shopper is a large thrift store chain here in central New York. Most of their stores are in the Syracuse area but they do have one location near me. I am very fortunate in that I have an active collaboration with them which has allowed me some additional perks. Compared to many of the other thrift stores local to me, these stores are quite large with a lot of inventory. Usually, I make out really well with accessories and tops at these stores. Their dresses and pants can be a little pricey at times (unless they are on sale). Overall, I do get a LOT of inventory from here and like anything else, each location is different with different inventory. As a result, you need to stop in pretty regularly to find the good stuff.
Location 3: Salvation Army
The Salvation Army thrift store chain is probably the most abundant thrift chain around me. There are probably 4-5 locations within a 10 mile radius of my house. Of all of the stores that I frequent, this chain may not have the largest stores. However, they typically have the best prices, especially on Wednesday’s when 4 out of the 5 tags are 50% off. I would say that the majority of my inventory comes from Salvation Army stores.
