With beautiful summer days on the horizon, I want to talk about everyone’s favorite summer shoe, the flip-flop. During this time of year, I only wear flip-flips at the pool or at the beach. After enduring many injuries from wearing flip-flops as a child, as I’ve gotten older, I have avoided wearing them altogether. Let me share with you some thoughts on summer’s go-to shoe.Summer is a time when the sun is shining, birds are chirping, and people bust out their flip-flops. Having an appreciation for high fashion, it doesn’t make any sense to ruin a nice outfit with cheap footwear. Flip flops are one of those things that have a specific time and place. I personally believe that flip-flops are meant for the beach, the pool, the shower, and/or around the house. However, that is my opinion and it is perfectly fine if you don’t agree with me.
While attending PT school, we discussed was the relationship between fashion and how certain fashion choices would affect our physique over time. One topic that caught my interest was the long-term effects of poor footwear choices. During this discussion, we talked about the effects of wearing flip-flops. In summary, flip-flops provide poor arch support, accentuate the heel-strike impact, and can potentially lead to hammertoe. Does that sound appealing to you?Any fashionista knows that shoes have the unique ability to say a great deal about a person without ever speaking a single word. For example, flip flops may indicate that someone is lazy, comfortable, and indistinct upon first glance. No one wants their shoes to say that about them! Your shoes should reflect the classy, confident, and strong woman that you are! My final advice to you is to choose appropriate footwear, keep your summer looks classy, and keep your cool this summer.
Be classy. Be confident. Be strong.
