Whenever you look up information regarding reselling, you may notice that many resellers and resale platforms emphasize the importance of using keywords in listings. For many of us, keeping up with the latest keywords can be both exhausting and time consuming. Today, I wanted to share with you my current keyword cheat sheet that I use for both my Poshmark and Mercari listings and show you how I add them into my listings to maximize an item’s exposure.
My FREE Keyword Cheat Sheet
When it comes to adding keywords into my Poshmark and Mercari listings, I will be the first person to tell you that I will avoid doing it at all costs if I can. Back when I started on Poshmark in 2013, users were not encouraged to use keywords in our listings as it was not part of the reselling experience at that time. As a result, I never got into the habit of incorporating it into my reselling business strategy. Fast forward to 2020 and keywords have become a key part of the reselling experience for both buyers and sellers. With the Poshmark search engine being unreliable at times, it has become clear how important it is to include some important keywords in listings for them to appear in buyer searches.
I’ll be honest, It wasn’t until recently that I fully embraced using keywords in my listings and I am currently adding them to both existing and new listings on both platforms. I have always used keywords in my listings but not in the way that would maximize the chances of my items being found by buyers in search engines. Now, I am being proactive and including any and all keywords that describe my items so that buyers can hopefully find the items that they are searching for with ease.
Adding Keywords to Listings
When I am adding these keywords to my listings, I always make sure to include some of the most important and relevant keywords in the item’s title. I then will repeat the same string of words in the first sentence of the item’s description. After that, I will describe the item’s condition, disclose any and all flaws, and include any information that I can find from the original item’s website. Then, I will add in a string of other relevant keywords to the very bottom of the listing in hopes that if any of those terms are used in a search, my item will appear in a buyer’s search results.
Here is an example of how what my listings look like on Poshmark:
