Hi there! If you are an email subscriber and receive my Reseller Recap every Friday, then you know that I briefly covered this topic in last week’s email. If you aren’t an email subscriber yet and would like to be, all you have to do is sign up for my emails at the bottom of this post! Today, I will be talking about something that not many resellers may not think to do and that is… create a Trend Report.
You are probably thinking, ‘What is a trend report?’ And that is a great question! A trend report is simply an organized list of the latest fashion trends. This list is super helpful when you are sourcing as you can take it with you and know what items to be on the hunt for (if applicable to you and your closet, of course).
I usually will compose a new trend report at the beginning of each month, as trends are currently changing. It normally will take me around 30 minutes to compile the list and once completed, my sourcing trips are much more organized and efficient. I know that everyone has their own way of doing things but for me, this works very well as it allows me to have constant knowledge of high-demand items. By knowing what items are “in” at any given moment, I can narrow my search while sourcing and shop smarter for inventory. If you purchase items that people are currently looking for, there is a much higher chance that you will sell items in your closet more quickly and therefore make more money as a result.
Obviously, there are many factors that go into having a “successful” closet but I truly believe that knowing what sells best for you and your customers is key. A trend report is a helpful tool for you to use in trying to figure out what those items are.
So far, we’ve talked about what a trend report is and how to use it BUT we haven’t talked about how to create it yet, right?! Well, let’s get to it!…
How to Create a Trend Report
Start By Finding Websites That Carry Trendy Merchandise
Personally, I use sites such as Asos, Zaful, and Forever 21.
Next, Head on Over to the Search Results, New Arrivals, Trending, and Back in Stock for Each Website
- Asos.com
Once I am on the Asos.com website, I usually will scroll over the New Arrivals section. Under this section, I will click on the Back In Stock and Trending Now options. The Back In Stock section will usually have styles that sold out and the website had to restock them because they were so popular. Any styles found under this section are in high demand. And under the Trending Now section, you will find items are currently on trend which are items that should sell as long as they are trending.
2. Zaful.com
For this website, I am going to split where to look into two sections. Zaful is a great place to look for trends as this is a fast fashion site that only sells items that are on trend. The first place to look when finding trending information on Zaful is the search bar. If you hover your mouse over the search bar, a drop down will appear and show all of the sites most popular searches. These are items that shoppers are actively searching for and items that you should look for while sourcing.
The next place to look when creating your Trend Report is under the New section. Once you hover over the tab, it will show a bunch of new items but you are going to want to focus on the Trending column and make note of the items listed there. These are the items currently on trend on the website.
3. Forever21.com
Forever 21 is another retailer that carries trendy fast-fashion items. On this site, I usually will head on over to the Best Sellers section and make a list of trends that I notice as I scroll through.
Now, I Head On Over to the Poshmark Website
Once here, I will hover over the Women’s Clothing tab on the top of the page and then click on the Shop All Showrooms under the Trending Styles column. Scroll through the showrooms to get a good idea of what items are trending on Poshmark at the moment. These showrooms change constantly so I would recommend checking them pretty regularly to keep up with the latest trends. Also, I would suggest clicking under each category at the top of the page to see what is trending for those as well.
Finally, Make a List of All Trends That You Notice on Each Website and Bring That List With You When Sourcing
