This past Saturday, I accomplished something HUGE on Poshmark… I now officially have 100k followers on Poshmark! Say what??!! I am still in disbelief over it. And in addition to reaching 100k followers, Poshmark reached out to me to host my first ever Poshmark Party (more on that as we get closer). So I guess you can say that this weekend has definitely been one for the books. Today, I want to share with you some lessons that I have learned while reaching the 100k mark.
Here are 10 lessons that I have learned so far on my Poshmark journey:
1. There is No “Magic Formula” to Success
This one is an important one. There is NO magic formula to success on Poshmark. In order to succeed, you need to learn your audience and cater to that audience. Once you do that, you will notice an increase in your likes, followers, and sales.
2. Be Patient
As we live in an age of instant gratification, we expect to see results instantly. Unfortunately, succeeding on Poshmark doesn’t work that way. You need to be patient and work really, really hard to succeed. Success with not be instantaneous but once you get there, all of your hard work will pay off.
3. Provide Exceptional Customer Service
This one is true when running any business regardless of its’ platform. Make sure that you provide exceptional customer service to your customers. This means that you are shipping orders in a timely manner, accepting reasonable offers, and building relationships with your customers. If your customers have a positive experience when working with you, they will shop with you again.
4. Be an Active Member of the Poshmark Community
This goes without saying. In order to give your closet exposure, you need to be an active member of the Poshmark community. Make sure that you are actively sharing other people’s listings, in addition to your own. Every morning, I share my entire Poshmark closet to ensure that I start off the day on a good start. Also, I love sharing the PoshLove with others. The Poshmark app is a community that works with each other, not against each other.
5. Be REALLY Organized at All Times
Whether it be with storing your inventory, keeping your numbers for the books, or anything else required with running a business, be organized. There are many necessary elements to consider when running a business on Poshmark, so it is essential to keep everything in order at all times. If necessary, perhaps invest in garment racks and plastic bins, or maybe create an excel sheet to track your inventory and data. Do what works best for you but whatever you, stay organized.
6. List New Items Daily
This is something that I noticed has helped with my sales dramatically. I noticed that when I started listing new items daily and keeping them towards the top of my closet, that my sales increased. So on that note, list new inventory daily and also share your closet daily as well.
7. Create a Cohesive Closet
When people first visit your closet, you want to make sure that you leave them with a positive first impression. Present items in their best possible light and keep your closet cohesive. I would suggest photographing items in a similar way, and using similar backdrops for your photos. Make sure that your closet has a vibe that it inviting to customers. (I wrote a post on it HERE).
8. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
This one is really important but please remember to not comparing yourself to others. Some people started a few minutes ago while others started 4 years ago. Some people spend every waking moment of the day on the app while others may be taking a year hiatus. My point is that you cannot compare yourself to others because we are all in different stages. Enjoy where you are right now and don’t compare yourself to other Poshers.
9. Work Really Hard
This is a given but you need to work really hard to succeed at anything in life. You will need to invest time, money, and energy into this business to ensure its’ success. There are many days where I wake up at 6 AM and go to bed and 12 PM just trying to keep my business afloat. This journey is definitely not easy but well worth it.
10. Don’t be Afraid to Ask for Help
You may find this hard to believe but I definitely do not know everything about Poshmark (I know a lot but not everything). Don’t be afraid to ask for help and learn from your peers. Everything that I know about running my Poshmark business is from learning from others and a TON of trial-and-error. Whenever I don’t know that answer, I find out. The Poshmark community is definitely a welcoming one so be sure to utilize it.
