As an active Poshmark user for the past three years, I know what it takes to be successful in the world of resale. I don’t want to discourage you but becoming a successful seller is not easy. Like anything in life, it takes time, hard work, and determination to achieve success. This is no different. However, with my help and encouragement, I am hopeful that I can get you there! To start things off, the first topic that I would like to address is the probably the most important: your cover photo.
The cover photo is the most important part of any sale. It is the first thing that your customer is going to notice when looking at your closet so it needs to grab their attention quickly. Take a look at the four items pictured above. What do you notice about them?
These four items are actual cover photos of items for sale in my Poshmark closet. Of these items, I only have two remaining in my closet and they have been listed for less than a week. What is it about these pictures that make them so captivating to customers?
1. A White Background
Whenever I photograph objects, I ALWAYS use a white background. The reason being is that it makes the object really stand out. When you eliminate the background noise, the object is not competing with its surroundings. As a result, it is able to grab someone’s attention easily when scrolling through pictures on his or her feed. For my white background, I use two white foam boards; one is a large flat board while the other is a trifold board. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby for under $10.
2. Quality Images
I’m not going to lie, taking pictures for your listings can be very tedious and time-consuming. There are days when I spend hours taking pictures for my Poshmark listings. Regardless of how many items I need to list or how exhausted I am, I know that in order for my items to sell, my pictures must be top dollar. Most people are surprised to know that my pictures for Poshmark are taken mostly from my iPhone SE and not my DSLR camera. Since my iPhone SE takes high quality photos and the Poshmark app is through my phone, it doesn’t make much sense to go through the hassle of taking out my DSLR and everything that accompanies it.
3. Staging
Staging is probably THE most important aspect of a cover photo when trying to make a sale. People LOVE seeing objects styled (or in our case staged) in cover photos. When people look at a styled photo, they are essentially envisioning how that item would fit into his or her wardrobe. If presented in a convincing manner, the customer will then justify a need for the object and make a sale. One trick that I like to use when staging photos is the “Rule of 3’s.” The “Rule of 3’s” is the idea that when staging objects, you need to arrange 3 different sized objects respectively in order to please the eye.
I hope that you find these tips helpful in your journey to becoming a successful seller. Keep checking back as I look forward to sharing more of my Poshmark secrets with you!

[…] Now that we have established that I have a love for all things black-and-white, let’s talk about Poshmark. For today’s Poshmark tip, I wanted to talk a little bit about listing. When is the last time that you listed an item? Was it today or a week ago? To make sales, you need to list. Period. No questions asked. Personally, I list at least one item a day, if not more. Listings = Sales so you need to take advantage of that. Also, please take GOOD photos for each item. Photos should be clean, crisp, and accurate. For more info on listing, please check out my post HERE. […]
