This past weekend, I was lucky enough to visit the George Eastman Museum and Mansion. This was my first time visiting and I am so lucky that I had the opportunity to check it out. In addition to visiting the regular museum, I was able to see that third floor, attic, and basement. These three areas are usually for staff only. However, once a month, George Eastman Museum members are able to go on a behind-the-scenes tour of these restricted areas. Be sure to scroll through my photos for a look at the George Eastman Museum and Mansion. ^ Here is the view from the oculus on the third floor of the mansion down onto the grand staircase.
^This is the view of the conservatory from the top of the grand staircase. One of the coolest features of this room is the large elephant head (not pictured) that George Eastman killed himself. Another interesting fact about this room is that it is the most famous room in the house. Why? Well, George decided that this room was not large enough for his liking. As a result, he cut the entire house in half in this room and had his entire housed moved 10 feet to expand this room.
^I absolutely LOVED this room! So this bedroom belonged to George’s mother and is probably my favorite room in the entire house. All I can say is that I loved everything about this room. I mean let’s talk about this view. Did you know that George Eastman believed that his mother should have the best view in the house? And let me tell you, she absolutely did as this last photo is the view out here bedroom window.
^Here are some pics in the main garden.
^And finally, here are some pics in the discovery room which houses old Kodak cameras. Did you know that George Eastman founded the Kodak camera company? Also, did you know that I am a goofball that takes photos with cardboard cutouts?
So I hope that you guys enjoyed a look into the George Eastman Museum and Mansion. If you are ever in the Rochester area, please be sure to check this place out, especially if you love photography and films. If you are interested in learning more about the museum click HERE.
