Today, I want to talk about how to authenticate Rothy’s. Many of you have probably seen the picture above in one of my recent Instagram posts. If not, I found a pair of what appeared to be Rothy’s while thrifting. Being that this was the first time that I had ever found a pair, I wasn’t really sure if they were authentic or not. I knew that there were fakes in circulation and didn’t really know where to begin. I did a few Google searches and found some info but nothing out there made be feel extremely confident as to whether or not they were authentic.
After posting this photo on Instagram, I received SO MANY comments and messages from you all with so much helpful info on how to authenticate these shoes. Today, I wanted to share all of the tips that I received from my amazing Instagram followers in case you ever come across a pair of Rothy’s yourself while sourcing.
(Spoiler Alert: The pair that I found were fakes!!!)
Things to Look For:
1. Manufacturing Country
All Rothy’s shoes are made in Dongguan, China and nowhere else. Many fakes state: Made in the USA. Also, one follower advised that there should not be any spaces between the “n” and “a” in China.
2. Label Texturing
The label should have texturing to it. What do I mean by that?? I mean that the paper that the info is printed on should have a texture design and should be like a fabric. There should also be a shine to the material. The info should not just be printed on a solid piece of paper. These fakes did have that detail on it so be careful.
3. Check the Logo Circles
One commenter advised that the tips on the Rothy’s Logo should not be touching the outer circle. There should be clear gaps between the two. These fakes are not touching the outer circle on one side but are touching slightly on the other side.
4. Check the Stitching
Many followers advised that the shoes should have clean stitching, meaning that there should not be any lose threads and the stitching should be uniform and neat. These fakes have loose threads on the underside of the Rothy’s insole along with a few stragglers on the inner sole.
5. Are There Drain Holes??
Another feature to look for are drain holes under the sole. This feature is missing on many fakes.
And there we have it! A few tips on how to authenticate Rothy’s if you ever find any while thrifting!!
I hope that you found this to be helpful and be sure to let me know if you ever find any Rothy’s while sourcing! I would love to hear from you!!!
