As a reseller who sells predominantly women’s clothing, it is important to understand the subtle yet important distinction between women’s straight (misses) sizing and plus sizing. This is especially true when it comes to understanding the transition between these sizes. Unfortunately, many resellers use sizing terminology interchangeably when they are in fact completely different sizes. In today’s post, I wanted to share with you how these sizes differ so you can list them appropriately in your listings as a reseller.
The Difference Between XL and 1X Sizing
The easiest way to distinguish between these two sizes is to compare measurements. Straight (misses) sizes tend to be cut narrower at the bust, waist, and hips while the length is typically longer; Plus sizes tend to be cut wider at the bust, waist, and hips while the length is typically shorter. When looking at where these sizes fall in the women’s sizing spectrum, there can be some confusion. A size XL is typically considered the end of straight (misses) sizing and a size 1X is typically considered the beginning of plus sizing. Essentially, plus sizing is the next size up from standard, straight sizing.
The easiest way to look at it is by thinking of it like this: Straight Misses Sizes- XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL followed by Plus Sizes- 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, etc.
How to Approach This Size Difference as a Reseller
As a reseller, it is important to ensure that you are providing your customer with the correct size in your listing. The best way to handle this is to always try to list the item with the correct size in both your typed out title and selecting the correct sizing drop down option. Additionally, take a photo of the item’s size tag and provide measurements. If the platform that you are using does not have the correct size option available in the drop-down menu, make a note of the correct sizing in both your title and description so any potential buyers can obtain that information easily.
