The reselling world is constantly growing and evolving. As a reseller, I am always researching to see what styles are trending and what brands are in high demand. Research is something that is essential to this business but it is also something that most people don’t take the time to properly do throughout the day. For today’s post, I wanted to discuss the importance of brand research and share with you a few tips on how to properly do it maximize sales.
What is Brand and Style Research?
Brand and style research is when you, as a reseller, go online and search Google and/or reselling platforms to learn what styles and brands are currently in demand. This is something that can be done seasonly (Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter), monthly, or weekly- the choice is yours. Personally, I evaluate trends bi-weekly.
How to Do I Know What Styles and/or Brands are Currently Trending?
The easiest way to learn what styles and brands are currently trending is to run a simple Google search. I like to stay ahead of the trends so I like to research both short-term and long-term trends: Short-term trends are trends that are hot as of today but will eventually fade with time. This is also true with trends from upcoming fashion seasons as well. Long-term trends are trends that have “classic” status and have withstood the test of time.
The easiest way to find short-term trends is to Google search “Fall/Winter 2019” or “Spring/Summer 2020” and to study runway trends and styles.
How Necessary is it for Me to Do Research?
If I had to rank it on a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of importance, I would rate it a solid 10. Why?? Think of it like this: most people that shop on reselling apps are looking to buy what is trending in stores for a cheaper price. And most of these people are looking for a specific item when shopping these apps. As a seller, you need to know what people are currently looking for. The more of these items that you provide in your closet/store, the more sales that you are likely to make.
What Should I Do Now?
As the year is coming to an end, I would look at your Poshmark closet and evaluate your items. I would look to see which of these items match current trends or upcoming trends for Spring/Summer and which items do not. Anything that doesn’t match, I would look at your numbers and decide which of these items are worth holding onto for a little bit longer and which ones can perhaps go to clearance or maybe to a Buy-Sell-Trade store. If you are unfamiliar with what items are currently in-demand, I would familiarize yourself so that you can use that info to help you make smart business decisions.
