I don’t know about you but when I go sourcing, I find a LOT of items from famous mall brands. These brands include Hollister, American Eagle, Victoria’s Secret, Forever 21, Zara and so many others. You’re probably thinking, “when you see them, do you buy them?” The answer…. yes and no. It depends on the brand. There are certain mall brands that I do pick up while sourcing and others that I do not. Let me share my logic with you behind my purchasing decisions.
Does it Fit My Closet’s Aesthetic?
Whenever I buy an item for resale, regardless of the brand, I ask myself this question. Personally, I want to sell my customers quality items at a discounted rate. Fast fashion brands (such as mall brands) are made of low quality materials that don’t last more than a fashion season or two. Therefore, these are not items that I would sell in my closet and provide to my customers. However, there are people who are able to incorporate these pieces into their closets. If that is you, perhaps I would advise you to sell only a few brands and make sure that they are reflective of this season’s trends.
Is it Oversaturated?
I typically tend to source and sell items that are in limited supply. By doing so, I can typically sell these items within a few days and increase my profit margins. The problem with sourcing items from mall brands is that there are a LOT of them in circulation and that drives profits down. Don’t get me wrong- I’ve seen some limited edition and unique pieces do well but unfortunately, that is not the norm. Regardless of what the brand is, I would advise you to not buy any piece that is oversaturated on Poshmark. (To see if an item is oversaturated or not, search the item on Poshmark and see how many people are selling the same it.)
Should I Sell Mall Brands as a Reseller?
There is no right or wrong answer to this question. Personally, I only sell brands such as Zara and Lululemon because that works best for me and my customers. However, I encourage you sell brands that work best for you and your customer base. Whether that includes mall brands, mid-level designers, or high end fashion, sell whats makes you happy and also makes you money.
