It is important for my closet to look amazing at all times. I am always on the move so I need everything to be organized and easy to get to when I’m getting ready for the day. Over the years, I have developed an extensive wardrobe but my closet has not always been accommodating to my love of fashion. I needed to figure out a way to have my closet look polished regardless of its smaller size. After a little experimenting, I found a solution that will hopefully help you as well.
Solution #1: Use Velvet Hangers
I LOVE Velvet hangers I can’t stress this enough! I used to be one of those people who used those white plastic hangers that you can buy cheap at Walmart or Target but I am SO glad that I eventually switched to black velvet ones. Not only do black velvet hangers look sleeker but they also take up less space in your closet due to their flat edges. Although the initial investment can be a little pricy, it will be well worth it in the end. As needed, you can buy additional hangers at the Dollar Store where they are sold as a two-pack for $1.
Solution #2: Organization is Key
Everyone dreads the day when they look in their closet and realize that they have nothing to wear. The truth of the matter is that we all have clothes in our closet, we just don’t know what we have in it sometimes making organization key. When your closet is organized, you are aware of its contents and you never have a ‘I have nothing to wear’ kind of day. Through experimentation, I have found that the best way to organize my closet is by category and color. Categories include long-sleeve tops, short-sleeve tops, dresses, tanks, jackets/blazers, pants, and skirts; Colors should form a rainbow spanning from pink to brown. An organized closet not only makes getting ready easier, but also makes you aware of what you need to focus on adding to your wardrobe when shopping.
Solution #3: Invest in Organizational Units
Every expensive closet that I have seen contains extensive organizational units. Organizational units instantly add that extra “umf” to your closet and can transform it from drab to fab. When adding units to my closet, I drew inspiration from Pinterest attempting to create a set-up that was both functional and stylish. As a result, I stacked two Closetmaid Vertical Organizers (HERE) on top of each other in the middle of the closet where it acts as shoe storage. On one side of the organizer, I stacked two horizontal stackable shoe shelves from Target (HERE) and on the other side, I added a chrome commercial grade closet rod from Bed Bath and Beyond (HERE). Finally, my top shelf houses all of my boots on two horizontal stackable shoe shelves from Target (HERE) . For under $100, you can make your closet look like a million bucks.
Solution #4: Remove the Excess
Removing the excess is probably the easiest way to have the appearance of a sleek, high-end closet. I strongly suggest keeping clothes that are made of high-quality fabrics, fit your shape, and make you feel good. If your clothes don’t meet the above criteria then it is time to get rid of them. Whether you sell them online or donate them to a local charity, clothes that don’t bring out your best should not be in your closet.
