Lilly Pulitzer is one of my FAVORITE brands to sell on Poshmark. Am I a personal fan of it? No, not really but that is not important. What IS important is that Lilly Pulitzer is one of my most successful brands to sell on the app. However, before we talk about it in depth, I do want to disclose that just because a brand is successful for one person, it doesn’t mean that it will be successful for everybody. It takes time to learn what brands work for your specific audience. And with that out of the way, let’s talk Lilly!
Lilly Pulitzer pieces are easily recognizable due to their bright and cheerful patterns. These patterns typically include animals, flowers, or some other whimsical design. If you look closely, you can even find a secret “Lilly” hidden in the print? (That’s how you know that it is a true Lilly Pulitzer piece). Originating in Palm Beach, FL, Pulitzer’s influence spread all over the US as she made her resort style accessible to all. And even after her passing in 2003, the company lives on and is a common household name among young fashionistas everywhere.
Lilly Pulitzer from a Reseller’s Perspective
Whenever I go sourcing for inventory, I am always secretly hoping that I stumble across a Lilly Pulitzer piece. Why? Well, based on the my selling history, printed Lilly Pulitzer pieces typically sell for me within 2-3 days of being listed on Poshmark. It has the second fastest turnaround time with Lululemon being number one.
Above, I am wearing a NWT 2-piece Lilly Pulitzer shirt and skirt set that retailed for around $198. This particular piece was sold at Marshalls for $59.99 and then sold at Thrifty Shopper, where I purchased it for only $9.99. (I think it’s crazy that someone donated this…) Although I am not a big Lilly Pulitzer fan, I really like this set so I kept it. If I change my mind, I can always sell it later. Now, take a moment to look at the tags pictured above ^^ The green tag is the most recent hang tag found on all Lilly pieces and the pink Lilly Pulitzer label is sewed onto all clothing pieces. If you ever see these pieces while sourcing, be sure to pick them up.
I also want to make mention of vintage Lilly Pulitzer pieces. These pieces are characterized by the same bright, cheerful patterns but slightly more muted in color. Also, they have white clothing labels with the Lilly Pulitzer logo written out in black handwriting.
Whenever I list these pieces, I do price them slightly higher than I would other pieces in their respective categories. For example, if I would normally list a dress for $35, I would list a Lilly P. dress for $60+ depending on what it is. Each category is different so you will want to do your research to see what a fair price is for the item.
In Summary…
If you find a Lilly Pulitzer piece while sourcing, why not pick it up and try listing it? Worst case scenario is that it doesn’t sell and you move on. Like I said before, learn your customer base and sell what appeals best to them whether that includes Lilly Pulitzer or not.
