This past weekend, I decided to get away for a few days to visit family. Whenever I travel to a new place (or old place), I love to stop into at least one thrift store in that particular city or town. The reason being that you never what you will find in other areas, especially wealthier ones. The area that I was in was exactly that I couldn’t wait to see what I could find. (I’ll share my full haul later this week.) In the meantime, I wanted to share some pics from the park I visited this weekend, along with tips on how to source while traveling.
Tip #1: Scout Out the Area
Research the area that you are traveling to and its’ surrounding towns and villages. In most cities, there is at least one town or village outside of it that has a wealthier population. These are the that you want to go to. More likely than not, people at these locations will donate really great items. By doing your research beforehand, you could find some really great, hidden treasures. (More on my NYC adventures HERE.)
Tip #2: Look in the Shoes and Purses First
I don’t know why but some of the best finds can be found in the purse and shoe sections. By looking at these areas first, I can usually tell the demographic of the people who donate items to that particular store. The better the finds, the better the demographic. If you find Tory Burch, Prada, Louis Vuitton, etc in these sections, then guess what, you probably will find other great items in other sections of the store. It’s not always true but more likely than not it is.
Tip #3: Only Pick Out the Best Items
This is especially true if you are traveling a long distance back home. In order to not run out of luggage space, it is really important to only pick ou the best items. The best items are the ones that will make you the most profit and most importantly, will fit in your suitcase. I always make sure to leave room in my suitcase for extra purchases but most of the time, I wish that I had an entire extra suitcase to put my goodies into.
