Have you ever went into a thrift store and felt extremely overwhelmed? If so, you sound like me the first time that I even entered a thrift store! Don’t worry if you feel that way! I have good news- once you develop your own plan of attack, you will be a power thrift shopper with the best of them! With that in mind, for today’s post, I wanted to share with you my plan of action when I go thrift shopping. Hopefully, this will help you to feel less overwhelmed and more motivated to thrift!
Stop #1: Start with the Shoes and Purses
My plan of attack is very simple…I shop where the money is! For me and my closet, I make the largest profit on shoes and purses so that is normally the first place I go when shopping. Usually, I start my thrift trip here because depending on the size of the shoe/purse section, I can spend a large chunk of my time here. Also, I like to start here so that way I find all of the “good” shoes before other people beat me to it.
Stop #2: Items that I NEED for my Closet
My next stop is looking through items that I NEED for my closet. These items are usually seasonal, like coats, boots, etc. But I make it a point to find these items first because they are items that I need to maximize my closet’s profits. These items also happen to be much harder to find and can be time consuming to locate.
Stop #3: New Arrival Racks
Once I locate all of my high profit items, I head on over to the new arrival racks. Most stores that I’ve ever been to have new racks out daily and most items don’t make it to the sales floor until later on in the day. Employees are usually really good about letting me go through the racks as it is less for them to run onto the floor. These racks are where you will find hidden gems before they hit the floor. I’ve found some awesome pieces on these racks!
Then….You can hit the rest of the sales floor shopping whatever category suits you!!
(This may seem a little vague but you’re thrifting strategy should be personalized to you and your business’ needs.)
