Last week, I shared with you how to properly use SEO in your Poshmark listings (check out that post HERE). Today, I want to expand on it and share with you how to properly use style keywords in both your Poshmark and Mercari listings. I’m going to be honest with you, I used to NEVER use additional keywords in my Poshmark and Mercari listings. I would just leave these sections blank and move on since they were optional. It wasn’t until recently that I realized how important it is to use additional keywords in your listings. Let’s get into it!
Using Style Keywords on Poshmark
Whenever you add a new listing onto Poshmark, you will notice that you have the option to add in “style tags.” Poshmark will typically allow you to add 3 into each listing; you can either add in your own or pick from one of their autogenerated options. These additional style tags are very important when it comes to searching for items. If someone were to search for a keyword such as “Business Casual”, as long as the phrase was added as either a style tag or mentioned somewhere in the description, it will appear in the search.
**Tip: Use “Business Casual” as a style tag whenever you can because it will allow your item to appear in the search results for both “Business Casual” and “Casual.”
Using Style Keywords on Mercari
Style keywords can also be used on the Mercari platform. You will find these keywords listed under the “Tags” section on a listing. They work very similarly to how you would use them on Poshmark. The only difference with these style tags is that they are not autogenerated; you will need to create these tags yourself. Like Poshmark, Mercari will allow you to add in 3 tags but unlike Poshmark, they appear in the form of hashtags. If you would like to add any additional style keywords, you can add them to the description.
Generating Style Keywords
Now that we have talked about how to use style keywords, you are probably wondering, how in the world do I generate them? Generating these style keywords and phrases is actually really easy. Many of the keywords that I use are collected from what I commonly find on the LiketoKnow.it platform and also from phrases that I use when shopping for items myself.
Here are some style keywords that I commonly use:
Business Casual, Casual, Winter/Fall/Spring/Summer (Fashion, Outfit, Shoes, Accessories), Contemporary, Y2K, Vintage, Minimalist, Wedding, Wedding Guest, Animal Print, Formal, Date Night, Colorful, Tribal, Activewear, Athleisure, Loungewear, Cozy, Art Deco, Black Tie, Bohemian, Brass, Cashmere, Coastal, Coord Sets, Farmhouse, Faux Fur, Fur, Leather, Faux Leather, Floral, Handmade, Lace, Linen, Lucite, Mid-Century Modern, Neon, Colorful, Neutral, Plaid, Retro, Rustic, Scandinavian, Silk, Lagenlook, Streetwear, Tie Dye, Unisex, Designer, Wood, Suede, Wool, Disney, Star Wars, Workwear.
There are so many keywords that you can use and you can choose how many to use. Whichever style keywords you do decide to utilize, be sure that they are relevant to the item that you are listing and try to use them at the bottom of the description. Fun Fact: Did you know that your listing will actually perform better in SEO if you use them at the end of the description?
**Tip: If you need helping finding style keywords, check out fast fashion sites like ASOS and Forever 21. While you are there, look at the trending items on both their homepages and drop downs. You should be able to find some popular keywords in both places.
For Example: By looking at the Shop by Edit section in the drop downs, you can find some great style keywords. A few that stand out to me are Bridesmaids, Fall Essentials, Modest Fashion, Responsible Edit (which is also referred to as eco-friendly), Wedding, and Workwear.
