When I first started my blog back in January, I had no idea what I was doing. No really, I had no clue. All I had were killer instincts, what I thought was a good idea, and a brand new DSLR camera. I’m not so sure that this was the ideal blogger starter kit but it worked for me so we’ll go with it.
Over the past few months, I have experienced both the highs and lows of blogging. Blogging is not as easy as many people think it is. In order to be successful, it requires a LOT of hard work and dedication. Despite the many negatives that I have encountered, I have also had the privilege of experiencing some amazing opportunities as well. Developing relationships with various companies and working with some amazing people are only a few of the perks. The world of blogging can be either competitive or supportive. Fortunately, I am glad that everyone that I have met loves and supports one another.
So what does this have to do with figuring out your blog’s identity?
Good question! One of the best parts of running a blog (at least in my opinion) is learning from your mistakes. My fellow bloggers have been my best teachers. Our goal is to help each other succeed and in order to do that, you may need to tweak a few things along the way. It is through mistakes that success (and your blog’s identity) is born.
A couple of months ago, my blog traffic came to a halt. I knew that something needed to change in order to resolve the issue. Later that night, I spent over 3 hours reading, researching, and applying techniques that I had learned online to the blog. I focused on improving each post’s SEO, image resolution, and content. Within a few days, my blog’s traffic increased dramatically. I later learned that 3 of my articles were top results on Google. After that day, I truly understood the importance of SEO.
I also realized that I needed to maintain consistency across my blog, Instagram, and Poshmark accounts. All three are linked and need to appear consistent at all times. Therefore, I developed a signature style for all three platforms and focused heavily on my refocusing my content. As a result, my blog’s identity was born!
In conclusion, great things take time so don’t be discouraged if things don’t happen right away! Work hard and remain determined through both the good times and the bad. Learn from your mistakes, tweak along the way, and don’t let others discourage you. Blogging isn’t easy but if you work hard and stick to it, amazing things can happen!
