The term, “girl boss,” is a term that is near and dear to my heart. I first heard of it when I read the book #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso, which I highly recommend. (Check out my post on 5 Books Every Girl Boss should read for more HERE). In the book, Amoruso discusses how she transitioned from an Ebay reseller to owning a multimillion dollar retail business. She is the perfect example of how following an untraditional path can lead to something beyond the imaginable. This book has helped me to embrace my inner girl boss and to live up to everything that a girl boss stands for. Today, I wanted to share with you some tips on how to dress like a girl boss (on a budget of course!)
How to Dress Like a Girl Boss on a Budget:
1. Discover What Article of Clothing or Accessory Makes You Feel Unstoppable
This is going to differ for everybody but there should be a piece in your wardrobe that makes you feel undeniably good when you wear it. For me, it is my Rivers Island black genuine leather jacket. This jacket and I go way back as I bought it while I was in college on ASOS on a whim. At the time, I had multiple faux leather jackets and they would constantly rip. Finally, I decided that enough was enough and I splurged on a genuine leather jacket. And let me tell you- it was the best wardrobe decision that I have ever made! Whenever I wear this jacket, I feel like a million bucks. This jacket causes my cool and independent persona is to be amplified to the max. Now, I would like you to take a moment and think about what article of clothing or accessory makes you feel unstoppable. Whether that item be a necklace or an amazing pair of shoes, incorporate it into your wardrobe on a regular basis and let your inner girl boss shine.
2. Keep it Structured
And no I am not referring to wearing a suit everyday. (I most definitely could not do that). A girl boss should have here own sense of style that speak volumes about who she is. I hate to say it but people will make their first impression of you based on your appearance. Your style should clearly express who you are in a creative yet structured way. The best way to remain structured is to wear clean, crisp lines that flatter your body shape.
3. Spend Smarter
When it comes to buying your girl boss wardrobe, you don’t need to spend a ton of money. You just need to spend your money in a smarter manner. I would suggest removing pieces from your wardrobe that don’t make you feel like a boss when you wear it. Then, identify any gaps in your wardrobe and invest in those pieces. Sometimes you can find these pieces at thrift stores while other times you will shop retail for them. Building a wardrobe that you feel good in will reduce the amount of morning wardrobe meltdowns and increase the amount of time available to build your empire.
Finally, I want to talk about today’s look with you! Today, I am wearing a River’s Island Jacket (SIMILAR- I paid $150 for mine) with a H&M black tee (HERE- $9.99) and TJ Maxx vertical stripe wide leg pants ($19.99).
