This past Saturday, I hosted my first Poshmark party. And let me tell you something… it was definitely not what I was expecting. Although I did have some fun during the party, I wish that someone would have told me the truth of what really goes on during a Poshmark Party. And that is why today, I want to share with you what it is really like to be a Poshmark Party Host. Let’s get to it…
The Good: Your Closet will Get a LOT of Exposure
…And I mean a LOT of exposure! From the moment that the party invitation gets sent out to the Poshmark community, your newsfeed is going to blow up (but more on that later). Ultimately, your closet is going to be receiving a LOT of attention from people so you need to make sure that it is in tiptop shape. I suggest placing the best listings at the top of your closet. Also, please make sure that your items are on display in their best possible light. This means that you may need to re-photograph items or edit descriptions in order to maximize sales.
In addition to having added exposure to your closet, you are also going to gain many new followers; I ended up with over 1000 new followers in the 2 hours that I hosted the party. This was definitely an added plus! Finally, as a host you will get to share a maximum of 10 listings from your closet as Host Picks. Take advantage of that as it may lead to an increase in sales.
The Bad: Your Newsfeed is Going to Blow Up
Within 5 minutes of Poshmark releasing the party invitation, my newsfeed looked like this ^ (see the pic above). And NO, I am not exaggerating. Initially, I thought that this was a good sign until I actually went into the app and saw what was really going on. Most of my newsfeed consisted of people sharing their listings to my closet and people begging me to pick their items as Host Picks. Both of which were NOT COOL people! My biggest frustration came from the fact that I perceived this experience as being a good opportunity for me and my business. However, it became a platform for everybody else to spam my closet in their attempts to have a Host Pick.
The Ugly: I Made NO Sales During the Party
My worst fear came true and I did not make a single sale during the party. However, I did make sales before and after which made up for it, but still. Most of the party consisted of people asking me to consider their items as Host Picks and nothing else. I wanted to disclose this with you so that you didn’t set unrealistic expectations for yourself. I surely did and I was really disappointed with the results. But I did learn a long time ago that you need to learn from every experience and move forward.
I hope that I provided some insightful information to you! If you have any questions about hosting a Poshmark party, please feel free to reach out!
