Over the years, I have experimented selling on many reselling platforms. Of these platforms, the one that has been the most challenging for me to navigate is Vestiaire Collective (formerly Tradesy) in more reasons than one. Today, I wanted to help familiarize you with the platform, share my experiences with the platform, and discuss why I ultimately decided that it would be best to start over on Vestiaire Collective.
What is Vestiaire Collective?
Vestiaire Collective is a reselling platform that focusing on selling mid-tier and luxury fashion and accessories for men, women, and children. This platform used to be owned by Tradesy but was bought out by Vestaire Collective in early 2023. Many sellers enjoy selling on Vestiaire Collective as it does not deduct major selling fees and sellers can avoid paying for shipping costs as these costs are transferred to the buyer instead. Items are inspected at the brand’s warehouse before being shipped out to a buyer. If everything runs smoothly, then the seller will receive their funds in a few days. However, it hasn’t been completely smooth sailing as Vestiaire Collective has experienced some backlash over the last yearl Customers have reported receiving counterfeit items and have had difficulty in reaching the company’s customer service when issues arose.
My Experience With Tradesy and Transitioning to Vestiaire Collective
When I first began selling on the platform, it was stilled owned by Tradesy. The company had a similar structure to how it runs now but it operated slightly differently. Back then, the company accepted many more brands than they accept currently. Anytime that I would add a new item to my main reselling accounts, I would then add them to my Tradesy account too. Luckily, Tradesy was a reselling platform that required very little once the item was listed, so after I would add new items, I would then leave the account untouched for days. This was great in theory but it did not allow me to generate many sales on the platform. Once enough time had passed with little sales, I decided that it was time to abandon the account; Items that were already listed on the account remained but I decided not to add any new listings until I could decided what I wanted to do next.
Once Tradesy was bought by Vestiaire Collective, I had to decide what I wanted to do with these older listings; I could either integrate my listings into the new platform automatically or I could just abandon the account altogether. I made the decision to integrate my previous listings into the new platform as I did want to give this new platform a chance. After everything was transferred, I then faced another hurdle as I was unable to add new listings to Vestiaire Collective as my crosslisting service did not have access to the platform yet. At this point, I continued to list on my other reselling platforms until ListPerfectly had access to Vestiaire Collective. After I was able to crosslist to Vestiaire Collective, I started adding in some of my luxury items to the platform. I was only able to keep this up for a few days before I lost motivation and decided to stop using the platform altogether. It wasn’t until the beginning of 2024 that I decided to revisit the platform and completely start over.
Starting Over on Vestiaire Collective
Something that I have learned over the years as a reseller is that sometimes, it is better to start over than it is to try to fix a business that is perpetually broken and falling apart. When it came to Vestiaire Collective this time around, I knew that I would be better off starting over than trying to salvage what I already had established and wasn’t working. I do believe that this holds true with any of the reselling platforms that we sell on. So I logged into my account and deleted every single listing until it was an empty canvas. Once all of my listings were removed, I used my Poshmark account to cross-list items back to Vestiaire Collective. This was a very tedious process but proved to be fruitful as I made a few sales within the first week of re-listing these items. Many of these sales were mid-tier and luxury items that I was unable sell on Poshmark after they had been listed on the platform for months. Showing these items to a new customer base has resulted in many sales that I would not have been able to make if I kept these items solely on my other reselling platforms. Additionally, I have noticed that whenever I add new items, drop the price on items, and/or participate in sales, I am more likely to get customer attention and make a sales.
If you have a reselling platform that is stale and not really generating the sales that you would like to see, it may be beneficial to start over on the platform and rebuild it into a platform that works for you.
