Like many of you fashionistas out there, I like to look fashionable while staying within a budget. Although it can be difficult at times, I have learned how to be a smart shopper and curve my minor shopping addiction. In my opinion, a smart shopper is someone who knows what the current styles are, what silhouettes look good on his or her body type, and when an item consists of quality materials. Of these qualities, I would like to focus on the last one.
In order to stick within a limited budget, most people shop at stores that offer low quality materials at low prices. Over time, these materials wear and need to be replaced. People begin reinvesting in low-quality pieces and sooner-than-later, all of their money is spent on stuff that needs to constantly be replaced. Being the smart shopper that I am, I have become conscientious of what I buy before I buy it. The very first thing that I do when I see an item that I am interested in is to look at the material of the item. If I see the “p-word” (aka polyester) anywhere on the label, I put it back immediately and move on. I’m not going to waste $20+ on a shirt that is only going to have to get replaced later.
I’m sure that you are wondering where my views on wearing, or in my case not wearing, polyester comes from. While living in Florida, I learned the dangers of polyester firsthand. A typical August day in Florida consists of 90-100 degree temperatures with the sun intensely beating down on you. It is so hot and humid that in order make it through the day, you have to wear clothing that is breathable otherwise you will be swimming in your own sweat. Disgusting but true! Being naive to the Florida climate, I wore polyester items while at school as it was all I had in my wardrobe at the time. However, I learned very quickly that if I wanted to make it through the Florida heat, I needed to change what I wore. Breathable materials such as cotton, rayon, and silk were quickly introduced into my life and I have not went back to wearing polyester since.
Getting rid of my polyester clothing has also allowed me to clean out some other aspects of my life as well. As I have gotten older, I have learned that I should focus on surrounding myself with the good and drawing attention away from the bad. When it comes to my wardrobe, I only fill my closet with high-quality pieces made to last; when it comes to my life, I limit the negativity and remove anything that doesn’t benefit my growth and development moving forward no matter how hard it may be.
My final advice to you is to learn to be a smart shopper, remove anything that is low-quality out of your life, and have a wonderful Wednesday!
Be classy. Be confident. Be strong.

Bianca Ida
[…] With both pieces priced under $30, how could I not give SammyDress.com a try? As a result, I impulsively placed my order. In all honesty, I was a little bit nervous about receiving items from this site. As a newbie, you are always nervous placing an order on a new site because you never know what the outcome will be. To my surprise, my order came in the mail within a few short days. Both pieces were wrapped neatly in plastic cases and looked just as beautiful as their pictures on the site. More importantly, both items consisted of cotton-rayon blends and not an ounce of polyester in sight. (I have a thing against polyester, you can read about it HERE.) […]
