Many of you probably know this already but I absolutely love to read business books. Ever since I became a full-time reseller last September, I have been looking for new books to help me to grow and expand my business practices. A few months ago, I came across a book called, The Nuclear Effect, by Scott Oldford and I have to say that it is probably one of the best business books that I have read to date. The book provides SO many helpful business tips and call-to-actions which I have already implemented into my business. Today, I thought that I would share with you some of the best takeaways that I have gained from reading this book in hopes that it will encourage you to check it out!
The Nuclear Effect by Scott Oldford
When it comes to reading business books, I tend to be a little on the cautious side initially. I’m at a point in my reselling journey where I want to be reading business books with useable material and not fluffy details that I cannot use in my business practices. I stumbled into this book by complete accident through a Facebook ad. Although I was skeptical at first, I saw that it had some great reviews and decided to give it a try.
Let me tell you something: this is probably one of the best business books that I have read (so far). Why? First, it is a quick read; I finished it within a few days. Second, there are SO many call-to-actions in this book that can be used in your daily business practices and I am confident that many of them will yield great results. This book is great because it was written by a business owner who made mistakes, shares those mistakes, and teaches you how to not make the same mistakes in your business. The author is extremely transparent and informative with everything that he provides in the book.
The Format of the Book
The book is set-up in a very structured way. At the beginning of the book, the author advises that there are 6 Pillars that make up The Nuclear Effect: Marketing, Sales, Product, Operations, Finances, and Mindset. Each of these pillars has a dedicated chapter with stories, examples, and call-to-actions. Within each of these chapters, the author provides his readers with practical business advice that can transform your business.
I’m not going to share everything from the book (so you’ll have to go read it to collect all of his helpful tips). But, I will share with you a few key lessons that I learned from each chapter that might be helpful to you and your business.
Marketing
Although I don’t have a formal marketing background, I typically feel pretty comfortable when it comes to marketing concepts and implementation. However, in this chapter of the book, I was introduced to a concept called the, “Relevancy, Omnipresence, and Intimacy Marketing and Sales Method.” Basically, this method describes the importance of creating a connection with people and building their trust through your marketing practices. Within the chapter, he goes into further detail into this method and also shares information how people making buying decisions, how to build a community, and how to use your unique talents in your favor. Honestly, this is one of the best chapters in the book, especially if you are new to the world of business marketing.
Sales
In this chapter, the author expands on the previous chapter and dives into how to get people to buy into your product. [This chapter focuses on how to sell to people who are looking to buy a product or service from you and not really basic selling techniques. However, I enjoyed hearing his take on it and it is a great chapter if you are looking to launch an online course or coaching program in the future.] Additionally, the author discusses how to determine what you are worth in your business and automation.
Product
This chapter discusses why people exchange money for products, how to build a customer success map, and how to properly create offers for your customers. Again, this not really suited for us as resellers but his take on all of this is very interesting to me.
Operations and Teams
Many of us resellers are solopreneurs, meaning that we wear every single hat when it comes to running our businesses. For many smaller-scale resellers, this is can be a great model to have. However, if and when our businesses get to a certain point, we may consider hiring on additional help. This chapter covers that! In this chapter, the author describes in detail how your business should have 3 key players: a starter, an operator, and a scaler. Additionally, he discusses how business owners should not identify themselves with their business, when to hire help, what type of help to hire, and how to create a positive work environment for employees. If you are thinking about hiring help in the future, I would suggest checking out this chapter!
Finances
I’ll be honest with you, I bought this book mainly for this chapter in the book. As I’ve mentioned previously, I do not have a formal business background. Everything that I know about business has come from books that I have read, life experiences, and the information that my husband has kindly taught me [as he has an MBA]. One of the biggest struggles that I have been facing in my business since going full-time is trying to figure out how to distinguish between Growth Mode and Profit Mode. This chapter does an excellent job of explaining this in detail. Additionally, it discusses basic business financial terms and concepts to keep in mind when running your business.
Mindset
Finally, the last chapter in the book talks about how to have the correct business mindset. One of the biggest topics covered in this section of the book is how to find your personal why. This is so important as knowing your personal why helps to ground you when things get tough and motivates you to keep going.
I hope that you decide to check out this book! It is a great book for beginner and seasoned resellers alike. If you do check it out, be sure to let know what you thought of it! It has helped me in my business and I hope that it can help you in yours.
