This is definitely a hot topic in the reselling community as everyone wants to know, “should a reseller provide measurements in a listing?” There is no right or wrong answer to this question and it simply comes down to a matter of preference. Personally, I have done both in my business and have had positive results in both scenarios. For today’s post, I thought that I would share with you my experience both providing measurements and not providing measurements in hopes that it will help you to decide what it best for you and your business.
My Experience Not Providing Measurements
For the majority of my time as a reseller, I have not provided measurements in my listings. The only time that I would provide measurements in a listing was if an item did not have a brand and/or size tag on it. Personally, I found it easier to just wait until someone asked me for a measurement and then provide it to them within 48 hours. Many of my customers were buying items from me consistently without measurements so I didn’t feel the need to provide measurements in all of my listings.
Although this method appeared to be easier for me, it actually started to cause me a lot of frustration as time went on. Over time, there was a large increase in the amount of people requesting measurements from me and due to how my inventory was stored and how much inventory I had, it became challenging for me to actually access all of my inventory. There would be times when I would get so frustrated just trying to find an item that I would give up and avoid taking certain measurements all together. I am absolutely certain that I was missing out on sales as a result of this and was providing less than ideal customer service.
Eventually, I started renting my storage unit and had to completely change the way that I has handling measurements.
My Experience Providing Measurements
Once the storage unit came into the picture, I was forced into taking my measurements ahead of time. How I have my inventory stored now would make it even more challenging for me to take measurements. As a result, I provide measurements for all of the items that I am selling on all of my reselling apps. I will provide any and all measurements in my initial listing so that way the buyer has that information from the start. Additionally, I went back and took measurements of all of my previously purchased inventory. Although it was a very time consuming process, it has proven to be well worth it for me.
I have noticed that since I have made this change, I now receive minimal questions on items in my closet; I am lucky if I receive maybe 5 questions a week (and none of them are measurements), which is minimal compared to what I received before. My sales have been on a steady increase; Although there are many factors that go into that, I’m sure that providing measurements in my listings isn’t hurting anything.
As far as the negative aspects of reselling go, I have not had too many issues in regards to reviews and returns when it comes to providing measurements.
I hope that you enjoyed learning about my experience with providing and not providing measurements. Remember: When it comes to providing measurements in your listings, always do what works best for you and your lifestyle.
