How many times have you went to a thrift store, picked up an item that you thought was great, only to get home and realize that it is oversaturated on the Poshmark app when you go to list it??! I’m sure that every reseller has done it at least once; I know that I have. However, just because the item is saturated doesn’t mean that you won’t still make the sale. Let me share with you a few quick and easy ways that you can make your item in an oversaturated market.
Let’s take a look at an oversaturated listing:
Don’t Use Stock Photos, Instead Use Your Own Photos
Look familiar??! This represents every oversaturated listing on the Poshmark app. And what do all of these listings have in common? They all use the exact same cover photo (aka the stock photo). As a buyer, all of these listing look exactly the same. Instead of focusing your attention onto the photos, you are going to focus your attention on the price as that is the only factor differentiating them from one another. However, if you use your own photo, instead of a cover photo, you are much more likely to attract the buyer’s attention because your listing is different than the others.
Use Keywords in the Title, Not the Exact Style Name
Another observation that you might make from the listing above is that all of the listings have the exact style name in the title. There is nothing wrong with that; in fact, I would encourage you to include the style name in the title. However, When it comes to trying to make a sale, you want to do everything in your power to stand out from other listings without sacrificing your profits. One way to do that is to use key words in the title instead of the style name.
For example, this polo’s exact name is Anthropologie Newport Polo Top in Orange. A better use of keywords might be Anthropologie Orange Anchor Short Sleeve Polo. It is referring to the same item but focusing on different keywords. Additionally, I would include the polo’s exact name in the description. By doing this, the SEO seach on Google will pick up on both sets of keywords in their search.
Be Thorough In Your Item’s Description
As you are trying to stand out from other listings, I would suggest being as thorough as possible in your item’s description. Include measurements or any other information that would be helpful to your buyer when making a purchasing decision. Basically, don’t get them a reason not to buy your item over others.
