Tod’s shoes are not something that I normally stumble upon while thrifting. So when I do find a pair, sometimes I am a little hesitant as to whether or not I found the real deal. Over the years, I have found my fair share of replica Tod’s purses (which are extremely common) but never any shoes. However, this past week, I found my second ever pair of Tod’s shoes and first ever pair of men’s shoes from the brand. Not only was I excited about my find but I was also extremely confident that I found the real deal. For today’s post, I wanted to share with you ways that I was able to authenticate these Tod’s shoes when finding them while sourcing.
Tip #1: Look for the Tod’s “T” Embossed on the Shoe
You will always find a “T” for Tod’s embossed on the leather of their shoes. It is usually pretty sizable and cannot be missed. Some shoes may not feature this depending on their age but most shoes will have this on it.
Tip #2: Find the Logo on the Insole of the Shoe and the Flap of the Shoe
Look for the Tod’s logo on 2 spots of the shoes: the insole and the inside flap. Both logos should say J.R. Tod’s with 3 circles around it where the middle circle is the thickest. The logo on the insole should also say “Made in Italy” along the bottom of the circle.
Tip #3: Look at the Stitching and Design of the Soles
Pay attention to the stitching and design of the soles. The soles should have perfect stitching with little grip dots evenly dispersed across the bottom. The heel of the shoes should look like a horseshoe with a space in the middle.
