Lately, a lot of people have been asking me to provide insight on item descriptions for Poshmark. Item descriptions are something that every reseller struggles with. “How much info is enough? How much is too much? Did I leave anything out? Should I include that in the description or not?”- Does any of that sound familiar to you? Trust me, you aren’t the only one who has overthought the process. I, too, have struggled with item descriptions and today, I thought that I would share some tips that I have learned over my Poshmark journey during that last few years.
1. Photos Matter
Before we talk about item descriptions, we need to talk about the most important piece of the listing, its’ photos. In order for a photo to be considered a “good photo”, it needs to be bright, clear, and thought out. Look at the photo above, for example. This is something that I may use as a cover photo as it is bright, very clear, and appealing to a buyer. All I used to make this photo appear this way is my iPhone and Photoshop (mainly to adjust the brightness). It’s that simple.
Want to see a photo that I would NEVER use in my closet??
When you look at this photo, what do you see? Would you buy this item or would you rather buy the one shown at the top of the page? I’m pretty confident that you would say that the picture at the top is much more appealing to a buyer than this one. Although there really isn’t anything technically wrong with using the second picture in a listing, I can tell you that it will take a LOT longer for you to make that sale. In short, photos DO matter in making a sale and having an awesome listing. For more on photos for Poshmark, click HERE!
2. Be Strategic with Your Pictures
Always be strategic with your photos!!!! Use either a stock photo or great flat lay as your cover shot (more on that HERE and HERE). Normally, I will photograph specific angles of an item so that I don’t have to include those details in my listings. Here is an example of some items that I would normally photograph for a listing:
1. An Up-Close Detailed Shot ^^
2. A Back Shot ^^
3. The Size Tag Shot ^^
4. The Fabric Content Shot ^^
By photographing these items, I don’t NEED to put them in the description but it definitely doesn’t hurt.
3. The Perfect Item Description
The perfect item description can be hard to nail but here are some MUST-HAVES for your listing:
– The Item’s Condition
– A Brief Description of the Item
– The Item’s Size
– History of the Item
– Is it True to Size?
– Any Flaws with the Item
– The Item’s Measurements (more on that HERE).
– Fabric Content
Include all of these items and you will have the perfect Poshmark listing!!!!
