Happy Halloween! Although I am not doing anything special this year, I wanted to share with you my DIY Halloween ensemble. Like most girls growing up in the 90’s, I loved Lisa Frank. My Lisa Frank collection included school supplies, clothing, toys, and basically whatever else you could think of. I’m not going to lie, it was kind of ridiculous. Although the Lisa Frank craze has died down since then, that doesn’t mean that it can’t inspire a Markie the unicorn Halloween costume, right?
What You’ll Need:
A Headband, Pink Glitter Felt, Stiffened White Felt, Rainbow Pipe Cleaners, Crazy Glue, Cone
Let’s start with the ears! First, take the white stiffened felt, fold it in half, and then cut out the felt in the shape of ears. Then, superglue the ears onto the headband.
After the white felt ear pieces are glued into place, cut out the inner ear pieces with the pink glitter felt. Then, use the superglue to secure them into place. Voila, the ears are good to go!
Now, let’s tackle the hard part, the rainbow horn. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how to go about creating this. On my first attempt, I used a foam floral arrangement cone (pictured above). Unfortunately, it was too large so I had to create a cone out of the stiffened felt. Although this worked much better, it was still a challenge gluing the pipe cleaners to the felt with superglue. (I got it all over my hands and it took 30 minutes to get it off.) Despite the challenges, I finished up the headband by securing the horn with an additional piece of felt and some superglue.
So there you have it, a unicorn headband inspired by the technicolor creations of Lisa Frank!
I hope that you have a wonderful and safe Halloween and don’t forget to check out my Instagram for the complete look!
