First of all, I want to apologize for not posting on Monday. Monday was such a hectic day and time somehow managed to slip away. Although Monday was a little crazy, I am here now and today, I want to move into the second part of my series and talk about “dressing clean.” If you missed the first part of my series on why every fashionista should shop dirty and dress clean, click HERE.
So what exactly do I mean by “shop dirty and dress clean”? For today’s post, I want to share with you my logic behind “dressing clean“:
“Dress Clean” refers to the idea that in order to feel good on the inside, you need to look good on the outside. In order to look good, you do not need to be dolled up every day. You should, however, look polished and presentable when you are out in public. Let me share with you some tips on how I dress clean:
Keep It Simple– I started to incorporate more simplistic pieces into my wardrobe as I’ve gotten older. By incorporating these basic pieces into my everyday outfits, my looks are both classy and chic without too much effort. One of my go-to styling tricks is to wear a statement necklace with basic pieces. By doing so, an outfit goes from being boring to interesting in a matter of seconds.
- Comfort is NOT an Excuse – You have no idea how many times I have heard people tell me that they don’t want to wear something because it is not “comfortable.” As a result, they tend to opt for pieces that are unflattering and for the most part ugly (but not always). That doesn’t have to be the case! Fashion and science have both come a long way in the past decade. Finding options that are both fashionable and comfortable shouldn’t be so difficult. For example, Cole Haan incorporated Nike Air technology in their shoes making them both comfortable and fashionable.
- Invest in an Iron– I know that this might sound silly but if you don’t own one already, invest in an iron. When clothing appears wrinkly, a person’s overall appearance may come across as unprofessional and sloppy. By spending a few extra minutes ironing your shirt and/or pants, your outfit will look polished and others will treat you accordingly. However, if you feel like ironing is too much to ask, your other option is to invest in non-iron shirts.
- Wear What Makes You Feel Good– Most importantly, wear what makes you feel good! If what you are wearing does not make you feel classy, confident, and strong, then it should not be on your body. End of story. You are an amazing person and you shouldn’t give people the opportunity to think otherwise by poor outfit choices.
I really appreciate you taking the time to check out today’s post and I hope that you found my tips useful!
