When I first started my blogging and reselling journey a few years ago, I was clueless. No really, I had no idea what in the world I was doing. My academic background comes from an undergraduate and graduate education in biology, psychology, and physical therapy, not marketing and business. As a result, I learned very quickly that to succeed in this business, I needed to learn more about it. For example, before I launched my website, I studied other bloggers and learned website design. I did this so that I could create something that would succeed in the long run. Just because you don’t have a formal education in something doesn’t mean that you can’t learn through life experience and by reading a LOT of books. (And I mean a LOT of books!!) One of my favorite books is You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero. In this book, Sincero discusses how to improve your relationship with money so that you can become your richest, truest, badassiest self.
Here are 5 Lessons that I Learned from You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero:
Lesson #1: Our Mind is Our Biggest Influencer
In the book, Sincero defines rich as “one’s ability to be able to afford all the things and experiences required to fully experience your most authentic life.” Notice how this definition doesn’t have a specific dollar amount attached but is instead based on what you place value on in your life? I really love that! But I don’t think people realize how powerful our minds really are; the power of the mind reigns supreme over any external truths. Basically, what comes out of your mouth comes into your life- it’s as simple as that. If you want to be “rich,” you need to think it internally as it will inspire your emotions. This will then inspire the actions that form your new “reality” aka “make you rich.”
Lesson #2: What Comes Naturally is No Coincidence
Are you naturally drawn to certain activities or feel as though something just comes naturally to you? Well, guess what, those activities or actions are tied to your universal purpose. You were meant to do them, which is why they are so easy for you. When we start talking about success and becoming rich, this goes hand-in-hand with it. If you do your part, then the universe will do it’s part and your riches will find their way to you.
Lesson #3: Be Confident in Your Dreams
You are your own biggest cheerleader! If you believe it is possible, then it is- end of story! Stay focused on your goals and be ready fight any obstacles that come your way. Sometimes you may need to break a few rules and go down your own path. Don’t be afraid to dream as big as you can, and learn to never take no for an answer. Remember to follow your heart and don’t stop until you reach your goal.
Lesson #4: Be Smart with Your Surroundings
When it comes to money, who and what you surround yourself with are two of the biggest factors on you perceive and feel about it. On that note, you should be conscious of the people who you surround yourself with. If you want to be successful, one of the best things that you can do is surround yourself with like-minded people who are a step ahead of you. By doing this, you will boost your energy, have a stronger faith, work harder, feel stronger about your abilities, and feel good about your accomplishments. Who wouldn’t want that?
Lesson #5: Have Tenacity
One of the most memorable lines in this book was that “successful people keep their faith for much longer than the average person does.” What does that mean exactly? This means that successful people don’t give up when things get hard. They constantly push themselves when they want to give up. They have unwavering faith that their vision is going to manifest itself, even if it’s not right now. In order to have tenacity, Sincero suggests that you hold onto the reason for why you want to become rich, learn constantly, get a mentor, and build your spiritual muscle.
And now I want to leave you with my FAVORITE quote from You are a Badass at Making Money…
“Everyone arrives on this planet with unique desires, gifts, and talents, and as you journey through life, your job is to discover what yours are, to nurture them and bloom them into the most authentic, gleeful, and badassiest version of yourself” – Jen Sincero
