Fall is slowly coming to an end here in the Empire State. Although I am not too happy about this, I know that I have to mentally prepare for the cold winter months ahead. (I’m not a big fan of winter). Last year, we lucked out here in New York, as we had a very mild winter. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that this year the weather isn’t going to be so kind to us. As a result, I decided to wear all of my favorite “fall” pieces before it starts snowing. In a few weeks, my wardrobe is going transition into heavy knit pieces and LOT of layers. Transitioning to new seasons isn’t always easy but here are some of my favorite tricks to help make the process easier:
1. Layers, Layers, Layers– Layering is your best friend when it comes to dressing for the cold, winter months. During this time of years, there is a constant battle between being too hot and too cold. Let me explain this a little bit more. When you go outside, it is FREEZING and all you want to do is bundle up in as much stuff as you can. However, when you escape the cold and enter a building, it is like a sauna. As soon as you walk through the door, you immediately break out into an extreme sweat. Over the years, I learned that it is a constant battle that you will never win. Therefore, to accommodate for both scenarios, dress in layers.
2. Invest in a Warm, Neutral Tone Jacket– During the winter months, you will be wearing a heavy-duty coat for 5-6 months straight. As a result, you really need to invest in a good one. Try to find a jacket made of wool if possible. Wool will keep you warm during the winter months so you won’t freeze your butt off. Also, try to stick to neutral tones such as black, white, and cream. These colors will match everything in your wardrobe so you won’t need to invest in too many pieces.
3. Treat Your Boots with Care– This time of year is when boots make their grand debut. With that being said, PLEASE treat your boots with care. I can’t stress this enough. If you have any leather boots in your life, make sure that you are constantly cleaning them, polishing them, and loving on them. As soon as the snow starts falling, salt appears on the roads and sidewalks. When this salt is exposed to leather shoes. over time it ruins the leather by trying them out. If possible, try to wear boots specifically for these weather conditions and make sure that they have traction on the bottom so you don’t slip on ice.Be Classy, Be Confident, Be Strong
