Being in Boca Raton, FL for the past week has been such an amazing experience. Let’s just say that the inner ocean child in me is quite happy! So far, this trip has been amazing but I have to admit that I am struggling with the intense Florida heat. Today I want to share with you guys some tips on how to survive the intense South Florida heat.
1. Apply Sunscreen with 50+ SPF Every Hour or So
First of all, it takes a LOT for me to get a sunburn, and I mean a LOT. Usually, my olive complexion allows me to tan with no problems whatsoever. However, this trip was a first for me… I got my first real sunburn. And no, I don’t mean a little red spot that I’m complaining about just to be dramatic. I’m talking about the type of sunburn where if you touch it, I will let out a few choice words and give you the death stare. (Which happened a couple of times on my trip.) So please be sure to apply a LOT of sunscreen so that you don’t end up in grueling pain like me. If you can, try to apply every hour or so, especially if you enter any body of water. Don’t underestimate the power of the South Florida sunshine or you may burn!
2. Bring the Proper Beach Gear
Whenever you go to the beach, be sure to bring the proper beach gear. Once I got my sunburn, I was so glad that I brought a long sleeve cover-up and one-piece. This allowed for me to still go outside yet remain covered so that I didn’t make my sunburn worse. I loved the cover-up that I brought as it was light and airy yet provided just enough coverage. (My cover-up was under $30 and can be found HERE, c/0)
Also, be sure to bring both sunglasses and beach shoes. Like I mentioned before, the South Florida sunshine is very intense and can become overwhelming at times. By bringing proper sunglasses, you will protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. Also, be sure to bring the proper footwear as well. As beautiful as those white sand beaches are, they love to absorb the sun’s rays. As a result, when you walk on this gorgeous sand without shoes on, your feet will feel as though they are walking through fire. It is very, very, very painful and my feet hurt for two days afterwards. Do yourself a favor and a bring a pair of flip-flops for the beach so that you don’t burn your feet like I did.
3. Stay Hydrated and Step Into the Shade
These two are probably the most important. Be sure to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated. You will sweat a lot so you need to make sure that you keep your body hydrated so that you don’t get sick. Along with that, be sure to sit under the shade every so often. As much as I love to sit out and tan, you do need some time out of the sun for your body to reset. Too much sun can lead to numerous health issues so be sure to give your body a break every so often.
Most importantly, be sure to be safe and have fun!
