Selling make-up on reselling platforms may sound a little strange but it can be a way to make some extra cash. For today’s post, I am going to talk about two different topics: (1) First, I will be doing a quick review of the Dior Rouge Holiday Palette and share how valuable it is on the reselling market and (2) Second, I will be sharing tips on how to sell make-up on reselling platforms for top dollar.
A Review of the 2020 Holiday Dior Rouge Golden Nights Lipstick Palette
I purchased this set from the Dior website. As a result, the set came in complementary Dior packaging (aka a fancy Dior box) along with a trial size men’s cologne and a ton of samples and freebies. Since the set was over $150, shipping was free which was awesome!
The Dior Rouge Golden Nights Holiday 2020 set retails for $180 and is known to sell out well before the holiday season. This set can be purchased at various retailers including Belk, Nordstrom and through the Dior website directly. I will link it HERE for you if you are interested in purchasing!
The set was packaged with much care and arrived with no damages or flaws. Each stick of lipstick had a signature CD on the tip with snowflakes on the sides. It would be a perfect holiday gift for anyone! If you love makeup or know anyone who loves makeup, then this set is definitely for you!
Now, you are probably wondering why I bought this set right?!! Good question!
Honestly, I bought this set because I really wanted the case. The quality of these cases are almost as good as a bag from the Dior store (obviously it is not on the same level quality wise but it is pretty darn close!) These cases are pretty limited edition and don’t hit reseller platforms often so when they do, they sell for a TON.
So you paid $180 just to keep the case??!!
Yes. Yes, I did. BUT I can make this (mostly) pay for itself. How??!!
I am going to be selling all of the makeup (which is brand new) on Poshmark and Mercari for pretty close to the original price. I will include all of the original makeup packaging (minus the case) and advertise how limited edition this set is. As it gets closer to the holidays, it is going to become more and more difficult to find this set which works out in my favor.
Here are 3 Tips for Selling Makeup for Top Dollar on Resale Platforms:
Tip #1: Try to Only Sell Makeup that is Brand New and Unused
This is probably a questionable tip but especially with everything going on in the world right now with COVID-19, I would strongly suggest only selling makeup that is brand new (preferably in the original packaging). From a hygienic standpoint, used makeup can house a ton of bacteria that can be passed onto others if sold after being used. However, makeup that is brand new can be great if a product is sold out or no longer in production.
Tip #2: Be Sure to Check Expiration Dates
With that being said, be sure to be conscious of expiration dates. Makeup does expire and the last thing that you want to be doing is selling makeup to someone that has expired. This may lead to people getting sick or breaking into an unwanted skin reaction.
Tip #3: Do Your Research
As with anything reseller related, be sure to do your homework and research the items that you are buying and selling. Some items will sell better than others and that can be discovered by looking up comps. Also, some items have been recalled so be sure to double check before posting.
